Nicholls residence hall renovation nears completion

Manning Passing Academy campers expected to be first guests

THIBODAUX – A 40-year-old residence hall at Nicholls State University is getting a facelift, and completion is targeted to coincide with the annual Manning Passing Academy, scheduled for Thursday, July 12, through Sunday, July 15.

Hayward Guenard, director of housing at Nicholls State University, conducts a tour of the renovated Calecas Hall, expected to open in July.

The new Calecas Hall, which houses University Police on the corner of Ardoyne and Acadia drives, will be able to accommodate 100 residents – two for each unit. The updated design includes new windows, exterior siding and furniture, including wardrobes and moveable, stackable beds; new drainage and patios; refurbished floors, walls and plumbing; and amenities including barbeque pits and a game room.

Hayward Guenard, director of housing, said the renovations should be complete in time for the arrival of the Manning campers – with the official opening for Nicholls students to follow in the fall.

“The new Calecas Hall will be a modern, comfortable facility in every sense of the word, and we are quite excited as work nears completion,” Guenard said. “I’m certain that our residents will be more than satisfied with their surroundings.”

Renovation costs have totaled approximately $911,000 – provided primarily via the Nicholls Facilities Corporation, a 501(c)3 private, non-profit entity. The Nicholls Office of Auxiliary Services covered the remainder of the expenses.
