Nicholls offers more than $1 million in scholarships

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University’s growing reserve of financial support continues to attract prospective students.

Courtney Cassard, director of enrollment services, said the university offered $1,045,084 in scholarships – or $8,360,672 over an eight-semester period – at last month’s Scholars’ Day banquets. This figure exceeded the awards offered in 2007 by approximately $380,000.

Scholars’ Day banquets are held each January for scholarship applicants with a score of 24 or above on the ACT and at least a 3.0 high school grade point average. To be eligible to attend, students must have applied to the university and submitted a scholarship application and ACT scores by the scholarship deadline.

This year’s banquets, held Jan. 28 through Jan. 30, welcomed more than 500 parents and 251 prospective students – an 11-student increase from last year, Cassard said.

No less than 122 decided to accept their awards “on the spot,” she added. The rest have until Feb. 15 to make their decisions.
