Wal-Mat honors Nicholls advisor

THIBODAUX – David Zerangue, coordinator of transfer student advising, assistant department head of general studies and instructor of mathematics at Nicholls State University, received $2,000 from Wal-Mart on Jan. 8 in recognition of his outstanding performance as an academic advisor.

WAL-MART HONORS NICHOLLS ADVISORThe Wal-Mart Excellence in Advising Award recognizes full-time faculty members whose primary responsibility is teaching, who spend a portion of their time providing academic advising services to students and who have completed or renewed master advisor certification within the three years preceding their nomination.

Dr. Robert Allen Alexander, associate professor of English and director of retention, advisor training and assessment, said Zerangue richly deserved the award.

“He is a very dedicated faculty member who does the detailed work that most of us don’t have the patience to do.”

Alexander said half of Zerangue’s award is intended as a cash stipend. The rest will help defray expenses to attend the National Academic Advising Association annual conference – or another conference focused on advising, mentoring or engaging students.

Zerangue is the university’s second recipient of the annual award.
