Nicholls bids farewell to Picou

THIBODAUX – Officials at Nicholls State University are mourning the March 15 passing of a valued friend.

“With the death of George Picou, Nicholls has lost a most generous benefactor, and Becky and I have lost a dear friend,” said Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president. “George was so supportive of Nicholls State University. He helped us to take our major fundraising events – Bite of the Arts, Women’s Night Out and the A+ Scholarship Night – to whole new levels of success. George also helped to endow two professorships in culinary arts. His wonderful wit and sense of humor were endearing to all, and we will certainly miss him.”

Dr. David E. Boudreaux, vice president of institutional advancement, said Picou was not only a great friend, but a wise mentor.

“He really loved helping to raise money for causes that he saw as important, and Nicholls was so fortunate that he believed in us and in our mission,” Boudreaux said. “Because George took a personal interest in making all of our fundraisers special, he would personally donate many of the auction items, and then he would have a great time bidding for them himself. Above all, George knew what it was to be a friend. He was always there when we needed him.”
