Nicholls Academic Council honors White

THIBODAUX – Gerard White, assistant professor of athletic training science and head of the Department of Allied Health Sciences at Nicholls State University, is the Nicholls Academic Council’s April honoree for outstanding service and significant contributions to teaching.

0415-academic-council-april08.jpg“Gerard exemplifies not only the true spirit of a Nicholls educator, but emulates professionalism in all his undertakings,” said Dr. Sue Westbrook, dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health. “His leadership and guidance throughout the creation and infancy of the athletic training science curriculum as a concentration, and more recently, as a proposed Bachelor of Science degree program, have greatly benefited students and faculty colleagues alike.”

In addition to serving as department head, White chairs the University Courses and Curricula Committee and presides over the Faculty Senate. In 2006, he was recognized by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association with the Service Award for District IX, and in March 2008, he received the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Education/Administration Award for committed teaching at an educational institution.
