THIBODAUX – A faculty member and student from Nicholls State University will help select the next president of the University of Louisiana System – Nicholls’ governing body.
Dr. John Doucet, director of the University Honors Program and associate professor of biological sciences, and Olinda Ricard, president of the Student Government Association, have been appointed to serve on the ULS’ advisory committee and search committee, respectively. These committees are tasked to find a replacement for outgoing ULS President Sally Clausen.
“The University of Louisiana System faces economic and infrastructure challenges as it prepares students from Louisiana and elsewhere around the world for the work of the 21st Century,” Doucet said. “I look forward to the work of finding the right person to lead us in this challenge.”
Ricard said she is honored to have been chosen to serve on the search committee:
“The selection of a new president for the University of Louisiana System will be an immense task. It will be a challenge to find a candidate who collectively exemplifies Dr. Clausen’s diplomatic leadership style, her wealth of knowledge regarding higher education or her depth of passion for the UL System.”
Clausen will take over as the Louisiana Board of Regents’ commissioner of higher education at the end of June, by which time, according to a tentative timeline, a new ULS president could be selected. Advertisements are currently running nationally with a May 2 application deadline.
