Wal-Mart and Nicholls unite to promote Colonel Pride

THIBODAUX – The entire community is invited to a pep rally at the Thibodaux Wal-Mart on Friday, Oct. 17, to help kick off Nicholls State University’s first home football game of the season-slated for Saturday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m.

The pep rally will begin at 5 p.m. near the corner of the ladies clothing and jewelry departments, where store management will provide a stage, a microphone, two speakers and a banquet table with cake and punch.

The Pride of Nicholls Band will open the ceremony with spirited music, followed by remarks from Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, and Jay Thomas, head football coach.

The festivity will include the band and the Nicholls cheerleaders performing the Colonels fight song, after which student athletes and coaches will be on hand to meet the public and distribute schedule cards and posters. The football, baseball and men’s and women’s basketball teams are scheduled to attend.

Pep rally participants will be encouraged to attend the annual Family Day celebration as well as the football game against Stephen F. Austin State University-both slated for Saturday, Oct. 18-and will learn about the Nicholls Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony, also scheduled for Saturday.

“Our university’s partnership with Wal-Mart has made this event possible,” said Renee Piper, director of university relations. “We thank our friends at Wal-Mart for their continuing support and urge everyone in the Bayou Region to make plans to attend this pep rally and show their Colonel Pride.”For information about Family Day, call the Office of Auxiliary Services at (985) 448-4965-or go to https://www.nicholls.edu/events/2008/10/07/family-day-2/.
