Nicholls to host domestic violence vigil

THIBODAUX – As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a candlelight vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in the Quadrangle of Nicholls State University.

Sponsored in part by the Nicholls Women’s Resource and Services Office and Chez Hope Family Violence Crisis Center, the purpose of the vigil is to remember women who have died at the hands of abusers; women and children who continue to survive in violent homes; and those who have left abusive relationships and struggle daily to maintain their independence.

Additional sponsors and participants include the Office of Student Services; Student Educators and Leaders; Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office; Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office; Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office; University Police Department; Thibodaux Police Department; City of Thibodaux and the Office of the Mayor; and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided by the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office.
