THIBODAUX – Two Nicholls State University faculty members, Paula Van Goes, instructor of woodwinds, assisted by Donna Sammarco, instructor of piano, will present a recital of standard works from the repertoire for saxophone and piano by composers from France, Brazil and the United States. The concert is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6., at 7:30 p.m. in Talbot Theater on the Nicholls campus in Thibodaux.The concert will include the “Tableaux de Provence” by Paule Maurice, a composition where each movement serves as a vignette that describes the culture and scenery of the Provence region of France.
Also featured are the “Sonata for Alto Saxophone” by Robert Muczynski, a work written in the neo-classical vein, and the North American premiere of “Com Molejo” by Brazilian composer Bruno Kiefer that features a blend of jazz-inspired melodies and the medieval compositional technique of a hocket.
