‘Different, better’ ads win local awards

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University’s latest television and Internet advertising has won two Silver ADDY Awards for 2009 from the Advertising Club of New Orleans. The awards were presented in New Orleans on March 13 at Pat O’s on the River during the annual ADDY Gala.

The winning advertisements from Nicholls were in the categories of “local television” and “webisodes.” A webisode is a video episode that airs initially as an Internet download or stream rather than airing first on broadcast or cable television.

Nicholls communications and marketing staff worked with Fire on the Bayou, a New Orleans agency, to produce the winning ads. Each ad depicts Nicholls students of widely varying academic and personal interests enjoying life on campus, ending with the tagline: “Nicholls State University: Different. Better.”

Nicholls students and staff from the Office of Admissions participated in videotaping the ads, which took place on campus in Fall 2008. Prominently featured are the new residence halls and renovated student union facilities at Nicholls.

The ads can be seen online at www.nicholls.edu/video.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local ADDY Awards is the first of a three-stage, national competition. Concurrently, all across

the country, local entrants vie for recognition as the best in their markets. At the next stage, local winners compete against other winners in one of 14 AAF district competitions. District winners then advance to the national ADDY Awards competition.
