Nicholls names Homecoming couple, honors outstanding alumni

THIBODAUX – The 2009 Homecoming Queen and King at Nicholls State University were named on Saturday, Sept. 26, during halftime of the Colonels football game against the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks.

0926-homecoming.queenWhitney Dupuy, a government junior from Bayou L’ourse and the daughter of Paul and Patricia Dupuy, was named queen. Her escort Blaine Adams, a pre-med biology senior from Cut Off and the son of Timmy and Natalie Adams, was named king.

University President Stephen T. Hulbert crowned Dupuy, accompanied on the field by Herbie Kimble, president of the Nicholls Alumni Federation, who presented roses to the new queen; Jessica Harvey, assistant director of alumni affairs and a member of the Homecoming Committee at Nicholls; and Dawn LaFont, 2009 Homecoming grand marshal and recipient of the 2009 James Lynn Powell outstanding alumni award. Also present were 2008 Homecoming Queen Marquita Hill and her king, Ugochukwu Ezema, who presented the queen’s and king’s gifts on behalf of the Nicholls Athletics Department.

Additional members of the 2009 Homecoming Court follow:

  • Lauren Daigle, daughter of Stephen and Renate Daigle, is an accounting junior from Labadieville. She was escorted by David Dugas of Pierre Part, a junior marketing major and the son of Lionel and Robin Dugas.
  • Shealey Guidry, daughter of Richard and Shannon Guidry, is a junior business management major from Cut Off. Her escort was Devin Wright of Houma, a senior accounting major and the son of Michael Wright and Elaine Tabor.
  • Lindsey Schaeffer, daughter of Annie and Charles Schaeffer, is a senior from Marrero majoring in culinary arts. Schaeffer’s escort was Benjamin Jones, a junior business pre-law major from Thibodaux and the son of Ben and Mollie Jones.
  • Maggie Jones, daughter of David and Daphne Jones, is a mass communications public relations senior from Thibodaux. Her escort was Donald Williams III, a senior from New Orleans majoring in general studies. Williams is the son of Donald and Louvenia Williams.
  • Jennifer Morella, daughter of Anthony “Chip” and Mary Lou Morella, is a junior from Berwick majoring in child, family and social services. Morella’s escort was Lawrence Briggs, a senior from New Orleans majoring in government – and the son of Joyce Briggs and Dearld Fields.

Several Nicholls alumni were honored on Saturday as well during a pre-game reception. Outstanding alumni awards were presented to Kevin Paul Bordelon, a 2006 graduate of the John Folse Culinary Institute; Dr. Carmelita Escalante, a 1981 graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences; Joan M. Malbrough, a 1986 graduate of the College of Business Administration; Dr. Rebecca Robichaux, a 1991 graduate of the College of Education; J. David Theriot, a 1990 graduate of the College of Nursing and Allied Health; and Brian Clausen, a 1999 graduate of University College.
