Nicholls and Fletcher announce collaborative plan

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University and Fletcher Technical Community College formally presented a collaborative plan to the Louisiana Board of Regents today. The plan provides greater efficiencies and effectiveness for students in south central Louisiana by establishing transfer agreements, designating specific transfer/cross enrollment to bachelor’s degrees and allocating shared facilities, resources and services.

The collaborative plan addresses initiatives proposed by Senate Bill No. 285, filed by Sen. Ben Wayne Nevers, which calls for a comprehensive system of articulation and transfer of credit between and among public and post-secondary educational institutions.

Key points of the Nicholls/Fletcher collaborative plan:

  • Establishes a course-transfer evaluation system that provides fee benefits and course-transfer security for students;
  • Allows Fletcher students to declare their intent to pursue degrees at Nicholls through an articulation agreement;
  • Establishes pre-admission to Nicholls;
  • Eases transition from a two-year to a four-year institution;
  • Allows Fletcher students an opportunity to enroll in courses/programs at Nicholls that are not available at Fletcher;
  • Provides students access to academic advisors on both campuses; and
  • Proposes the development of a transfer center/office on both campuses.

“The partnership between Nicholls and Fletcher serves a four-parish region and is something for which we are quite proud,” Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, Nicholls president, said.

“Fletcher and Nicholls have developed a model relationship, one that goes beyond systems and is focused on the students and providing quality education and opportunities to the citizens of south central Louisiana,” Fletcher’s Chancellor, Travis Lavigne, added.
