THIBODAUX – The Board of Regents granted approval on Thursday, June 24, for Nicholls State University to begin construction of a campus recreation facility and activities program.
“Certainly this is welcome news for our students, faculty and staff,” Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, said. “I am pleased that Nicholls is one step closer to no longer being the only University of Louisiana System institution without a recreation center.”
Students approved a referendum on April 21, passed by a 79-percent margin, to provide the funding necessary to operate the facility. It was the largest student-voter turnout since Hulbert became president in 2003.
Administrators are planning a groundbreaking ceremony for late fall 2010. Construction is slated to begin in December 2010, with an anticipated completion date some time in fall 2012.
