Nicholls honored by United Way

THIBODAUX – United Way for South Louisiana presented Nicholls State University with the organization’s Gold Award this month for generating the largest gift increase of any member group over the previous year.

The 2010 Nicholls campaign raised $15,720 among faculty and staff for community service efforts in south Louisiana – approximately $5,000, or 54 percent, more than the 2009 total – and the most for any year since the annual campaign began.

“This is a great success, and we are very proud,” Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, said. “The Nicholls family reaffirmed to the citizens of our region that this university truly cares about the people we serve, and they did so during one of the most challenging times Nicholls has ever faced.”

Dr. Patricia Gabilondo, associate professor of English and department head of interdisciplinary studies, served as United Way’s campus campaign coordinator, and John Ford, director of human resources, led his staff in organizing the effort.

“I deeply appreciate the efforts of Dr. Gabilondo and Mr. Ford, as well as their staffs, in spearheading such a successful campaign,” Hulbert said. “I also want to thank the Nicholls Foundation and the Alumni Federation for providing so many incentives to encourage participation.”

United Way for South Louisiana will circulate the funds raised during the 2010 campaign to 27 community agencies and organizations in the Bayou Region, including the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, Council on Aging and Cancer Center Patient Assistant Program at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.
