THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University invites students, their families and the entire community to the annual Family Day celebration, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010.
Themed “Fête de la Famille” – or “Family Festival” – the fun-filled day begins at 8:30 a.m. with the annual Stroll for Student-Athlete Scholarships. The 30- to 40-minute route around campus, beginning and ending at the Bollinger Memorial Student Union, raises funds to support student-athlete scholarships. Stroll registration is $20 and includes a T-shirt and catered breakfast.
The festival, which began at Nicholls in 1983, is scheduled from noon to 3:30 p.m., next to John L. Guidry Stadium, and will include live music by Treater, a popular swamp pop band; food booths offering jambalaya, hamburgers, cotton candy and more; and arts-and-crafts booths with face painting, displays and interactive games.
Family Day participants may purchase reduced-admission tickets to the 4 p.m. Nicholls vs. University of Central Arkansas football game for $10 between noon and 3 p.m. Tickets will be available at West Gate 2 and East Gate 1 of the stadium. Food tickets purchased for use at Family Day booths will also be accepted at concession stands inside the stadium.
The Family Day fest concludes at 3:15 p.m. with a pep rally featuring the Pride of Nicholls Marching Band, cheerleaders, Col. Tillou and the Colonelettes.
