Olympia Vernon to headline Nicholls lecture series

THIBODAUX – The Fletcher Lecture Series at Nicholls State University will celebrate its 27th anniversary Thursday, Oct. 28, with guest lecturer and novelist Olympia Vernon.

Vernon’s lecture – “Take Up Your Bed and Walk: Reflections of a Young Writer” – is free and open to the public. A question-and-answer session with the author is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union’s Le Bijou Theater. A pre-lecture reception will begin in the Talbot Theater lobby at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 6 in the auditorium.

Vernon, author of “Eden,” “Logic,” and “A Killing In This Town,” will be available after the lecture to sign books.

The Fletcher Lecture Series, named after former Nicholls department head Marie Fletcher, brings outstanding scholars and writers to Nicholls each year. Past presenters include Robert Penn Warren, Ernest Gaines, Maxine Hong Kingston, Sam Pickering and Marilynne Robinson.
