Joey Saltaformaggio, an art junior from Destrehan, looks over the “East/West: Contemporary American Prints” exhibit in Nicholls State University’s Ameen Art Gallery. Free and open to the public, the exhibit will continue until Friday, Feb. 3.

The purpose of the display is to highlight trends and innovations in early 21st century printmaking. To that end, co-curators Ross Jahnke of Nicholls and Brian Kelly of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette called for contributions from printmakers in every state of the union.

The exhibit features two portfolios, one called “East,” highlighting artists from states east of the Mississippi River, and the other “West” – covering the western states.

Each contributing artist produced an edition of 55 prints, some of which have been separated and distributed among art galleries, universities and exhibitions throughout the nation.

The Ameen Art Gallery, located on campus in Talbot Hall, is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For additional information, call Jahnke at 985-493-2501 or the Nicholls Department of Art at 985-448-4597.
