Nicholls to host cautionary lecture on corporate fraud

THIBODAUX – Aaron Beam, founder and former chief financial officer of HealthSouth, will deliver a public address at Nicholls State University on Thursday, March 29, warning students and community members about the dangers of corporate fraud.

Between 1984 and 1997, HealthSouth grew to operate more outpatient rehab centers, surgery centers and hospitals than any company in the nation—but the upper echelons of the company were rife with fraud. In 2003, Beam admitted his part in the fraud and was sent to prison. Since his release, he has spoken to more than 100 organizations, warning others not to take his path.

The lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in 152 Betsy C. Ayo Hall. Although free and open to the public, the event requires attendees to register in advance at lsbdc.org/workshop.aspx?ekey=10320023 – or call 985-449-7092.

Sponsors of this event include the Nicholls College of Business Administration and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center.
