Nicholls to remain closed, classes canceled through Thursday, Aug. 30

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University will remain closed and classes canceled through Thursday, Aug. 30, as a result of Tropical Storm Isaac. The campus remains in a Stage III Alert in accordance with the university’s Hurricane Emergency Plan posted at https://emergency.www.nicholls.edu .

Students are not being evacuated from campus at this time, however residence hall students are encouraged to return home to be with their families. Students who cannot return home will be permitted to remain in the residence halls until further notice. Should the forecast call for hurricane-force winds on the campus, residence hall students will be moved to the student union ballroom for the duration of the storm and until the residence halls are reopened. Food service for all on-campus residence will continue until further notice.

Residence hall students should review the emergency preparedness handout available at https://emergency.www.nicholls.edu/wp-content/uploads/resident-hurricane-preparedness.pdf. The handout provides instruction on how to prepare for the storm as well as check-out and check-in procedures. Students are also encouraged to review Student Union Hurricane Shelter Rules, available at https://www.nicholls.edu/union/.

Campus events scheduled Monday, Aug. 27 through Thursday, Aug. 30 are canceled. Nicholls GTG childcare facility will be closed Monday through Thursday.

The Emergency Preparedness Committee will continue to monitor the speed and path of the storm and will take additional action if necessary. Please continue to monitor the Nicholls website, www.nicholls.edu, and its emergency website, https://emergency.www.nicholls.edu, for updates.
