THIBODAUX — After more than 35 years of service to Nicholls State University, Mike Naquin is retiring from his post as chief financial officer Friday, June 6.
Naquin will continue to serve in a temporary appointment while the university prepares its annual budget and searches for his replacement.
“Mike Naquin has been a tremendous asset to Nicholls State University for over 30 years,” said Dr. Bruce Murphy, Nicholls president. “In that time he has taken us through financial good times as well as lean times and done it superbly. He is well-respected not only on campus but also in Baton Rouge at the University of Louisiana System office. He will be missed.”
Naquin took his current post as chief financial officer in 2011 after a long career of service to the university.
His predecessor, Lionel Naquin Jr., Nicholls vice president for finance and administration emeritus, said he knew the university’s finances would be in good hands with Mike Naquin at the helm.
“Through the years Mike learned the ins and outs of Nicholls. There’s nobody there who knows better the intricate details of what it takes to keep that financial system going strong,” Lionel Naquin Jr. said.
A native of Thibodaux and a certified public accountant, Mike Naquin graduated from Nicholls with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1978. He began his career at Nicholls in 1979, initially as a staff accountant. He was promoted to assistant controller, controller and was eventually named assistant vice president for business affairs and controller in July 2001, a position that later became the assistant vice president for finance.
In addition to his service at Nicholls, Naquin also served as fire chief for the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department from 1997 to 2011, and was selected as the grand marshal of the 2014 Thibodaux Fireman’s Fair.
Naquin lives in Thibodaux with his wife, Jill, and their daughter, Brooke.
