Ameen Art Gallery Hosts Public Lecture by New Orleans Based Professor

THIBODAUX, La. — A New Orleans artist will offer insight into his work during a lecture at Nicholls State University next week.

Thomas Walton will discuss his style of painting at 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4 in Talbot 201. Walton is an instructor of painting at Southeastern Louisiana University. 

The lecture is part of an ongoing still life exhibit hosted by the Ameen Art Gallery. “Thinking Through Things: A Still Life Painting Invitational” features one of Walton’s paintings, “Staying Connected.” This exhibit is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until March 6. Both the lecture and exhibit are free and open to the public.

Walton was born in Oxford, United Kingdom. His parents moved to Washington, D.C., when he was a baby. Beginning at age 16, he studied with renowned artist Carlo Pittore. Walton received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2004 and his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Art in 2007.

His paintings have been exhibited in places including the Pennsylvania Academy of Arts, “The Sleeper Presents” in San Francisco and Cabrini College. He has a painting in the permanent collection of the Woodmere Museum. He is also a member of the painting group Perceptual Painters.
