Alum, Author to Speak at Bonnie Bourg Lecture Series

THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University will celebrate Women’s History Month with the 2020 Bonnie Bourg Lecture Series and Women’s History Month Luncheon on Thursday, March 5. 

Tina DeSalvo Callais (BA ‘81) will be the featured speaker for the lecture series. Her presentation, “Nothing is Off Limits,” is at 10:30 a.m. in the LeBijou Theatre. The talk is free and open to the public. 

A 1982 inductee into the Nicholls Hall of Fame, Callais became the first female play-by-play announcer in Louisiana as part of a 30-plus year career in radio and television journalism. She is also a critically-acclaimed author and has published eight books. 

“Tina DeSalvo Callais’s career and life story is so rich,” said Dr. Michele Caruso, interim vice president for student affairs and dean of students. “Her success as a journalist and author speaks for itself, and her accomplishments such as being the first female play-by-play sports announcer is inspirational to anyone trying to break through barriers. She is a very genuine storyteller with an important message.”

Callais will also give the keynote address at the Women of Achievement Award Luncheon at noon in the Student Union’s Carnival Room.
