Nicholls to hold weeklong benefit for St. Jude

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University will join other University of Louisiana System institutions next week to boost awareness and raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The UL System’s Student Advisory Council, made up of student government association presidents from member institutions, chose St. Jude as the focus of the system’s “Students Strong in Service” program because the hospital serves so many Louisiana children.

Nicholls’ activities, open to the public, follow:

Monday, Nov. 7 – Informative handouts, including a schedule of events, will be available in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union. Gift baskets will be on display, including one with New Orleans Saints tickets. Raffle tickets for the gift baskets will be on sale for 50 cents each, and all proceeds will benefit St. Jude.

Tuesday, Nov. 8 – Bing Cherry Frozen Yogurt Bar in Thibodaux has agreed to donate 25 percent of Monday’s and Tuesday’s sales to St. Jude.

Wednesday, Nov. 9 – A basketball tournament is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. in Stopher Gymnasium. Teams of three players each will compete for prizes, including $300 for the winning team. To enter the tournament, call (985) 448-4557 or (404) 380-4193. The entry fee is $10 per player. Proceeds will benefit St. Jude.

Thursday, Nov. 10 – A free concert featuring local artist John Daigle is scheduled for 9 p.m. to midnight at The Foundry on the Bayou in Thibodaux. Gift baskets will again be on display, with 50-cent raffle tickets available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit St. Jude.
