Nicholls United Way campaign largest in seven years

THIBODAUX – The 2010 United Way campaign at Nicholls State University raised $15,720 among faculty and staff for community service efforts in south Louisiana – approximately $5,000 more than the 2009 total, and the most for any year since 2004.

Hulbert, university president.

“It is amazing to me how generous the people of this university are, especially in this time of economic hardship,” said Dr. Patricia Gabilondo, campus campaign coordinator, associate professor of English and department head of interdisciplinary studies. “I am quite proud to be a member of such a caring, selfless community.”

Gabilondo said the success of this year’s campaign can also be attributed to the Nicholls State University Foundation and Alumni Federation. Both organizations furnished prizes for drawings at the post-campaign program, conducted Monday, Feb. 22, in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

United Way for South Louisiana will circulate the funds raised during the 2010 campaign to 27 community agencies and organizations in the Bayou Region, including the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, Council of Aging and Cancer Center Patient Assistant Program at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.
