THIBODAUX – The Fletcher Lecture Series at Nicholls State University will celebrate its 28th anniversary Thursday, Nov. 3, with guest lecturer Dr. Darrell Bourque, former poet laureate of the state of Louisiana.
Scheduled for 6 p.m., Bourque’s lecture, titled “In the Company of Others: A Talk and Reading,” is free and open to the public. A question-and-answer session with the poet is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Plantation Suite of the Bollinger Memorial Student Union, followed by a pre-lecture reception in the Talbot Theater lobby at 5 p.m.
The Fletcher Lecture Series, named after former Nicholls department head Dr. Marie Fletcher and sponsored by the Department of Languages and Literature, brings outstanding scholars and writers to Nicholls each year. Past presenters include Robert Penn Warren, Ernest Gaines, Maxine Hong Kingston, Sam Pickering, Marilynne Robinson and Olympia Vernon.
