THIBODAUX, La. — The Nicholls State University Wind Ensemble invites you on a musical journey “From Here to Everywhere” during their Fall concert.
The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 in the Mary and Al Danos Theater and is free and open to the public. Dr. Jason Ladd, interim music department head, will conduct.
The “Here” part of the program will feature Suite Louisiane by James Syler. The Louisiana chapter of the College Band Directors National Association commissioned the piece. It includes five sections, each representing different parts of the unique Louisiana culture. One section resembles a church hymn, another Cajun music, while another has a Caribbean rhythm.
“It’s a great piece because it shows the different styles of music in Louisiana,” said Dr. Ladd.
The Nicholls Wind Ensemble debuted the piece in January.
As the music moves to “Everywhere,” some compositions will be familiar to moviegoers. Among the work is well-known music from the original Star Wars trilogy. There will also be a clarinet performance of Viktor’s Tale from the film “The Terminal.”
“With the help of my college band director, we made it sound as close to the version of the movie as possible,” said Dr. Ladd.
Senior music majors Brenna Barrera, from Raceland, and Richard Galbreath, from Houma, will also conduct works.
Featuring professors who have performed at prestigious venues all over the world, the Nicholls Department of Music offers hands-on experience in performance and music education. The department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
