The Department of Allied Health Sciences is an interdisciplinary group of educational programs offering opportunities from entry-level undergraduate education to advanced educational and clinical practice options for health care professionals. The department uses innovative on-campus and online components to achieve its mission of preparing professionals for today’s health care market.

Allied health refers to occupations that support, aid and increase the efficiency of physicians, dentists or primary clinical specialists.

Benefits of Membership: Connect with other dietetic students who can support you through study groups and projects; develop leadership and teamwork skills; network with local registered dietitians; participate in fun campus and community activities to enhance your learning outside the classroom; attend field trips; attend the Louisiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Conference; and enjoy guest speakers at meetings. National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association

The National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. National membership is available to undergraduate, graduate or doctoral students enrolled full- or part-time in communication sciences programs or related majors.

  • Encourages professional interest in the fields of speech-language pathology
  • Allows students a venue for members to assume leadership roles
  • Helps in national, community and university projects through service and monetary contributions
  • Helps to provide for the needs of the Jo Carol Nolen Speech, Language and Hearing Center

Any Nicholls student interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders can join.

NSSLHA Nicholls Chapter holds a social gathering at the beginning and end of each semester. New members can meet faculty and upperclassmen. Guest speakers are often invited to provide members with a hands-on look at the field of speech pathology and audiology or related fields. The speaker may be, for example, a local physician, private practitioner or other community professional. The group also participates in university and area service projects.

Yes, the group usually meets at noon on the last Tuesday of the month in Ayo 118.   Reminders are posted through emails.  Drop in!

 The dues are $15 per semester and are primarily used to fund contributions to worthy causes, such as “Operation Smile,” funding for guide dogs for the hearing impaired, funding items for residents of nursing homes in the area and items for the Jo Carol Nolen Speech, Language and Hearing Center.

Our goal is to provide students with support, answer any questions, enlighten on further education, promote Allied Health professions, and foster interaction with professionals of Allied Health.

Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society

Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society, the Kappa Delta Pi Chapter at Nicholls State University, is part of a national organization that is the leading honor society in the field of Human Sciences. This organization promotes empowered leaders who use an integrative approach to enhance the quality of living through excellence in scholarship, leadership, and research.

Eligible students are those that major in Health Sciences (Pre-professional, Athletic Training, Communicative Disorders, and Nutrition and Food Services), Dietetics, or Family & Consumer Sciences, have earned >45 hours of course credit and a 3.5 GPA or above.
