FINANCIAL AID

Cost of Attending Nicholls

When planning for college expenses, you will want to consider “cost of attendance,” which is the sum of tuition and fees, housing, and personal expenses (which range from textbooks to travel to toothpaste). When you apply for financial aid, the University will use this “cost of attendance” figure when calculating your financial aid package. This ensures you are aware of all financial aid resources available to you to assist with college expenses.

The following links can provide more precise information regarding cost:

Cost of attendance (COA) is the maximum amount of financial aid and scholarships a student can receive. Cost of attendance does not represent an amount you will owe to the university. The cost of attending Nicholls State University can vary, depending on a student’s classification, enrollment, residency as well as the type of program. It is composed of direct and indirect costs.

  • Direct costs are institutional charges billed to you by Nicholls and include tuition, fees and, if residing on campus, food and housing.
  • Indirect costs are estimates of costs that may be associated with your attendance, but are not typically University charges. Examples include books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.
Our Net Price Calculator is designed to help you and your family plan for the cost of education here at Nicholls! This calculator will estimate your costs for tuition and expenses (as an undergraduate student) as well as your potential eligibility for need-based financial aid based on individual circumstances.

Personal expenses are estimated indirect costs not billed to your student account. Your financial aid refund and/or work-study earnings, if you receive them, will help cover these expenses. You control these costs, so amounts will vary.

Loan Fees: Students who choose to take out a federal direct student loan incur origination fees set up by the federal program. These fees are included in the cost of attendance as the average amount paid by students who borrowed in the previous year at our school. Students who choose not to borrow do not incur any loan fees.
