Director of Communications

Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Communications consist of managing the Jefferson Chamber’s communications, outreach, and promotional efforts to a wide variety of audiences, including the media, membership, local business leaders, elected officials, and other economic development organizations in the Greater New Orleans region. This position works to ensure the Chamber’s message and image is consistent with its mission and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of written, digital, print and visual communications for the Jefferson Chamber, Jefferson Chamber Young Professionals (JCYP), the Jefferson Chamber Foundation and the Jefferson Chamber PAC
  •          Work closely with the Vice President, Director of Events & Programs, and Director of Advocacy to ensure event graphics, signage, and other marketing items are effectively created and used
  •          Oversee the writing, editing, and approving of all publications and postings before they are published, including press releases, blog/news posts, newsletters, email blasts, social media posts, and more
  •          Supervise production of Chamber’s annual publication, the Jefferson Review, by collecting, organizing, and transferring written content and photographs to local publishing company
  •         Maintain and update all social media content on sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for Jefferson Chamber and its affiliate organizations
  •         Maintain and update all website content on the Jefferson Chamber, Jefferson Chamber PAC, and LiveWell Jefferson websites using WordPress knowledge
  •         Develop and follow an annual communications plan
  •         Create ad content and communicate with the Chamber’s external design agency for design needs to ensure deadlines are met and maximum promotion of events is achieved
  •         Responsible for the content creation and scheduling of daily emails via Constant Contact
  •         Manage press for signature events and assist with coordinating publicity and developing/maintaining relationships with local media
  •         Ensure photographs are taken at all events; download and archive all event photos
  •         Update sponsorship and membership guides annually and as needed
  •         Oversee and assist with other special projects such as Accreditation and award submissions

General Responsibilities

  •         Attend Chamber networking events, as needed
  •         Assist with and help manage Chamber functions on and off site
  •         Perform all other duties as assigned by the President

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of communications, advertising, marketing or PR preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign and Photoshop)
  • Proficient with Constant Contact
  • Basic WordPress knowledge preferred
  • Excellent written, oral, and editing skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and time management are required
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Networking skills and ability to represent the Jefferson Chamber favorably
  •          Flexibility with schedule and ability to work events during and outside of normal working hours is required
  •          Ability to work in a team environment and across many positions to achieve the goals of the organization as a whole
