Position Summary
The Digital Content Specialist’s primary responsibility is to facilitate the school’s effort to communicate and publicize itself to current families, faculty and staff and the Greater New Orleans community through digital channels, not limited to social media, website and email. This individual will serve as a storyteller, using student and teacher profiles, daily activities and special events as source material, and will also endeavor to keep current families informed and apprised of school news and announcements. The Digital Content Specialist works closely with the Director of Marketing and Strategic Initiatives and collaborates with the Advancement Team, including the Admissions and Development Offices and division-specific offices. A successful candidate will possess exemplary written and verbal communication skills, organizational and multitasking abilities and abundant creativity and flexibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the content, layout, approval process, editing and programmed delivery of communications sent through Mailchimp.
- Manage the school’s correspondence calendar to prioritize key messages and balance the number of emails parents receive in any given week.
- Upload and manage Mailchimp audiences, tags and segments for division-, employee- and donor-specific communications; monitor unsubscribes and bounces.
- Track email metrics and make recommendations for areas of change and needed attention.
Social Media
- Create and design social media content, including posts, stories, reels, link shares and captions for the school’s Instagram and Facebook accounts, engaging a strategy centered around enrollment, retention and thought leadership goals, as well as uniform coverage of all divisions.
- Manage a calendar of planned posts based on the school’s internal activities and marketing priorities.
- Identify opportunities for organic, unscheduled posts.
- Maintain a voice and approach consistent with St. George’s mission, thought leadership and emphasis on community and core values.
- Receive and monitor teacher newsletters and blogs, attend scheduled activities and ceremonies and visit classrooms for content.
- Monitor accounts for messages and comments, interacting whenever possible with a goal for nurturing relationships and a positive view of the school.
Website
- Post refreshed content and all necessary updates to the school’s website with particular attention to the needs of prospective parents and enrolled families.
- Collaborate with admissions, development, athletics and division-specific teams to receive, proofread and layout website updates for their pages.
- Contribute to the posting of blogs and school news updates to increase SEO.
Photography and Videography
- Use a DSLR camera, cell phone and other tools for engaging and publication-worthy photography and videography; support the school’s goal for increased short-form video.
- Maintain excellent records of all photography using the school’s Google Drive system and ensure all team members can access materials and are correctly filed in a timely manner.
- Develop a system for consistently sharing photos with parents and guardians following events.
- Flexibly attend after-hours events for school traditions, events and activities.
Miscellaneous
- Create in-house graphics for the website, email communications and events (e.g. banners or digital invitations) utilizing Canva and the Adobe Suite.
- Contribute to the design, proofreading and production of print publications, including the annual yearbook and magazine, Accolade.
- Stay abreast of new tools and platforms and best practices within the world of digital communication and independent school communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Strategic Initiatives.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design or public relations; an education or humanities degree will be considered with experience in school communications and/or marketing.
- Exemplary communication, writing and visual design abilities; attention to detail to complete multiple projects on schedule and in an organized manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a sense of humor and positive demeanor
- Demonstrated strength in DSLR and phone photography and videography, as well as in various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest and TikTok
- Experience using and creating content on email marketing platforms, including with AI
- Ability to think strategically and creatively with a DEI lens
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends as required for school traditions, events and activities
- Proficiency in Google Workspace applications, including but not limited to Gmail, Calendar and Drive (Docs, Sheets and Slides); ability to use an online student information system, various educational platforms and safety/communication applications on a Chromebook, iPad and/or a smartphone
- An appreciation for the work of educators, the independent school setting and mission of St. George’s
- A sense of integrity, ethics and ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures
