Weather Intern – Spring 2026

Are you passionate about weather and interested in a career in broadcast journalism? WGNO News is now accepting applications for its Spring, 2026 Weather Internship Program. This internship provides college students with hands-on experience in a fast-paced television newsroom, working directly with our award-winning Weather Department.

 

Interns will gain practical exposure to forecasting, daily operations, and on-air weather production. This is an excellent opportunity for students seeking real-world training and mentorship from experienced professionals in the field.

 

Internship Details:

  • Department: Weather
  • Semester: Spring, 2026
  • Compensation: Unpaid (must receive academic credit)
  • Eligibility: Open to college or university students who are eligible to receive credit
  • Schedule: Based on academic program requirements and availability

 

What You’ll Experience:

  • Participate in the day-to-day operations of a working weather team
  • Collaborate with meteorologists, reporters, producers, and photojournalists
  • Work on projects that may include forecasting preparation, graphics creation, and assisting with live weather segments
  • Receive direct supervision and feedback in a meaningful, educational environment

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Junior or senior enrolled in a broadcast journalism, meteorology, communications, or related program
  • Internship must be for school credit
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in media production or weather coverage
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions
  • Previous internship experience is a plus
  • Must adhere to all company safety protocols and guidelines
  • Expected to maintain the confidentiality of company operations and proprietary information
