Communications Specialist

Role Overview:
We’re seeking a skilled Communications Specialist to manage media relations and public communications for NOLA Education and Star Academy programs. This role will be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that enhance our brand visibility and showcase student success stories.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and analyze daily media monitoring report; provide actionable insights

• Maintain a timely database of media and community organizations across multiple states

• Draft and distribute press releases for program launches and special events

• Develop media storylines and pitches based on Star Academy data and national trends
• Coordinate with district superintendents and school principals for media opportunities
• Manage relationships with local media contacts
• Create customized PR plans aligned with district visions
• Organize and execute ribbon-cutting ceremonies and open houses
• Develop recruitment materials and brochures
• Maintain social media presence and content calendar
• Document success stories through photography and testimonials
• Coordinate with video production team for promotional content
• Provide warm handoffs between sales team and district contacts

• Develop and distribute weekly eblasts to sales and lobbying teams via Constant Contact

 

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field
• 3+ years experience in media relations or public relations
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Experience working with education stakeholders
• Project management capabilities
• Proficiency with social media platforms
• Photography and basic video editing skills

 

Desired Skills:
• Experience in education sector communications
• Knowledge of K-12 education landscape
• Event planning experience
• Adobe Creative Suite proficiency
