Gambel Communications | Metairie
The Communications Intern supports the Client Services team by assisting with assignments related to media relations, community relations, special events, social media and creative content. Working under the direction of account leads, this position provides hands-on experience across multiple communications disciplines while developing foundational agency skills. This paid internship is designed for students entering their final year or emerging professionals interested in pursuing a career in public relations and communications.
Successful interns will leave with a portfolio of work, exposure to agency client service and practical experience that prepares them for entry-level communications positions.
Primary Learning Responsibilities:
- Assist with drafting press releases, media alerts, talking points and speaker briefs
- Supports research for media relations, community relations and client projects
- Assists with award nominations and supporting materials
- Creates graphics and social media assets under direction using Canva, CapCut and similar platforms
- Maintains media and community databases as assigned
- Supports client events and community engagement activities
- Assists with Gambel social media content
- Participates in staff meetings, brainstorming sessions and agency professional development opportunities
Individuals who will be the most successful at this role will have experience with media writing, social media content curation and graphic design using either InDesign or Canva.
Requirements:
· Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field
· Strong writing skills with familiarity with AP style
· Experience using Microsoft Office and Canva; Adobe Creative Suite, Capcut or photography/videography skills are a plus
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Interest in public relations, media relations and social media
· Ability to work at least 20 hours per week in person during designated office hours
· Ability to receive direction, ask questions and collaborate effectively with team members
Internship Details:
· Paid internship
· Minimum three-month commitment
· Minimum 20 hours per week
· Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and/or Friday
· Between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
· Availability outside of work hours for media appearances and shadowing opportunities as they arise
