BIO:
Melissa Remark is an Associate Professor of Film Studies, English, and Creative Writing, and
serves as an active faculty advisor for the Nicholls Film Society. After working in the film and
television industry for ten years, Ms. Remark started teaching at Nicholls in 2015, focusing on
Film Studies courses like Cult Classics, Steven Spielberg, the Coen Brothers, and Animated
Films. She also developed Film Production courses in 2017 that have grown to produce
successful student narrative films and documentaries. Ms. Remark enjoys talking endlessly about
new films, traveling off-the-beaten-path, and birdwatching. She is currently seeking
representation for her debut novel and working on a collection of academic essays on Richard
Linklater’s cult classic, Slacker.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Ms. Remark has written and produced several of her own short films including Riverbend, which
premiered at the New Orleans Film Festival in 2018, and Call Me Cappy, which screened at over
twelve international film festivals, including the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival
in 2015. Ms. Remark is also active in the creative writing community as alumni of competitive
writing conferences such as Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Centre d’Art Marnay Art Center,
and Disquiet International Writing Program. She is an active member of AWP: The Association
of Writers and Writing Programs and the Pop Culture Association.
