Assistant Director, Creative Services (Graphic Designer)

Position Summary:

 

Supports Tulane athletic programs and external departments to promote and enhance, through graphic design, creative content and social media, the brand of the Tulane University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

 

Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Creative Services, the Assistant Director of Creative Services (or Graphic Designer) will work closely with the external units to design digital assets that promote the Tulane University Athletic programs. The Graphic Designer will execute final concepts determined by collaborating with various departments. Daily projects will include designing content for social media platforms, in-house video board content, the official Tulane Athletics website, team posters, emails, brochures and all other marketing, strategic communication and creative collateral needed.

 

The successful candidate will elevate the Tulane athletic brand by creating compelling graphic designs that promote and highlight all the athletic programs and overall department.

 

The successful candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, a good communicator and possess the ability to handle numerous projects in a timely manner with the flexibility to adjust to unscheduled developments involving immediate attention. Must possess the knowledge of various graphic design tools and technology, while adapting to new technologies as appropriate.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Function: Work closely with the external units of the Tulane University Athletic Department to produce all content and design layouts for all advertising, marketing & strategic communications collateral. Design content and create templates for infographics, social media content, season ticket booklets, informational brochures, official Tulane Athletics website content (TulaneGreenWave.com), videoboard content, among other design needs within the department. Assist with the design and creation of email campaigns. (65%)

 

Generate overall themes and design of each season’s athletic team posters, pocket schedule and other team specific related marketing collateral. Work closely with the Head Coaches or Director of Operations for each designated sport. Produce all content for advertisement buys, including but not limited to digital and print billboards, newspapers ads, web ads, and paid social media ads. (30%)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 year experience in graphic design or related field
  • Professional experience in graphic design and demonstrated experience with the Adobe Creative Suite.

OR

  • High School diploma/equivalent
  • 7 years’ experience in graphic design or related field
  • Professional experience in graphic design and demonstrated experience with the Adobe Creative Suite.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:

  • Proven graphic design technical abilities with a strong understanding of layout, color theory and typography in both print and digital media.
  • Solid working knowledge of industry standard software and applications such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated creative mindset with a passion about excellent creative execution.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, and external vendors.
  • Strong organizational, management and leadership skills
  • Possess the ability to learn new technologies, techniques and solve problems quickly and completely.   
  • Positive attitude, detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability.
  • Knowledge of email services, ideally Adobe Campaign and Moveable Ink, or similar programs.
  • Proven ability to multi-task effectively, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills
  • Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
  • Possible travel with sport teams for select away contests
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Previous experience at the NCAA DI level
  • Experience with social media communications in the college athletic space.

NCAA Related:

Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately.  Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
