Travel Media & Social Content Coordinator

A part time position serving as a key connector between Visit Jefferson Parish (VJP) and the travel media and influencer community. Responsible for assisting with the upkeep and execution of the Travel Media Plan, the position focuses on shaping and sharing the destination’s story through compelling social media content, media outreach, and immersive familiarization (FAM) tours. Through strategic content creation, media pitching, and relationship management, this role directly influences how Jefferson Parish is perceived, experienced, and celebrated by travel writers, influencers, and audiences worldwide.

Requirements & Duties:

• Assist with the strategic upkeep and execution of the VJP Travel Media Plan

• Plan, create, and schedule engaging social media content across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X (Twitter) to showcase the destination, events, and experiences

• Develop and maintain a content calendar aligned with marketing campaigns, seasonal events, travel trends, and media opportunities

• Buildup, manage and maintain the SnapSea platform to support social, UGC, and digital marketing initiates)

• Monitor social media activity and respond to comments and messages, and analyze performance metrics to refine content strategies

• Produce and/or assist in distributing video content and key news updates across social channels, using press releases as source material for posts and links.

• Maintain and distribute media kits

• Build on, maintain and utilize the Local Media Database

• Assist with the creation and editing of short-form video and static image content

• Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and local partners to produce visual assets

• Pitch story ideas via the iDSS Media PR database, Meltwater, and other available resources

• Coordinate all aspects of familiarization (FAM) tours for travel writers, and bloggers including itinerary planning, logistics, and on-site hosting

• Develop and maintain relationships with VJP members, elected officials, and community stakeholders; gain working knowledge of the Parish’s outdoor, cultural, and historic assets

• Build and nurture relationships with travel media professionals, ensuring they have the tools and experiences needed to tell compelling stories

• Stay current on social media trends and travel industry developments

• Track social media analytics and provide monthly reporting in accordance with the annual marketing, sales, and business plan

• Maintain & grow the travel media/writer contact database and provide monthly reporting in accordance with the annual marketing, sales, and business plan

• Maintain & grow the number of travel media published articles and provide monthly reporting in accordance with the annual marketing, sales, and business plan

• Assist with social influencer campaign strategy, execution, and development

• Maintain a working knowledge of the bureau’s goals, objectives, and membership benefits

• Perform physical activities for extended periods, including computer work, keyboarding, telephone use, and sitting or standing

• Work evenings and weekends as required

• Some travel required, including out-of-town conferences and industry events for travel writers/media

• Lift, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds

• Perform other duties and projects assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, and/or public relations preferred

• 1 year of experience in social media management/social creation

• Proficiency with major social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X, along with social media analytics and performance tracking

• Knowledge of tourism trends, influencer marketing strategies, and the travel media landscape is preferred

• Proficiency with social media scheduling tools and analytics platforms

• Experience planning, creating, and managing content calendars, creating or assisting with blogs, short‑form videos, and visual content creation and distribution

• Familiarity with basic photography and video editing tools

• Strong writing skills with a knack for crafting engaging captions and storytelling

• Experience coordinating events; familiarization (FAM) tours is a plus

• Excellent organizational skills

• Ability to work independently and alongside others as a team

• Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
