The University provides a variety of activities, programs, and services to support and complement the academic offerings and to expand the total growth of the student. The various components of the co-curricular program relate to the university’s mission and educational philosophy by contributing to the cultural, intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development of students. The student development philosophy underlying these activities and services focuses on the personal growth and education of the student and is based on the premise that all students have the right to develop to their full potential.

Nicholls State University Bookstore services are provided by Barnes and Noble College Booksellers. The bookstore provides digital, rental, new and used textbooks. The Colonel Book Bundle is our new all-encompassing, affordable textbook rental program that will provide undergraduate students with all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and electronic book versions before the first day of class! The average student is estimated to save $150-$200 on textbooks for a semester. All undergraduate students will be automatically enrolled. Student Access Center –Disability Services (SAC) Offers any qualifying Nicholls State University student with a disability comprehensive support services, including classroom accommodations. Honors Students
The Honors Program is designed with highly motivated student in mind. Its mission is to create enhanced educational experiences for a community of intellectually curious and academically talented students through challenging and creative opportunities that foster a life-long love of learning. Through innovative instruction, honors students receive a distinctly personal education that significantly involves them in the learning process.
Students with Disabilities
The Student Access Center (formerly Disability Services) provides assistance to students with disabilities in their adjustment to college and serves as a liaison with faculty to accommodate students with disabilities.
International Students
International Student Services assists international students in the transition to university life upon their arrival and throughout their studies. The International Services Office coordinates immigration advising, orientation, welcome events, tax preparation assistance, advises the international student organization and maintains Federal compliance.
Student Athletes
The Office of Athletic Academic Advising supervises all aspects of academic compliance, including scheduling and registration, monitoring or progress toward degree, and eligibility. This office also administers the Athletic Life Skills Program which combines the efforts of the NSU Athletics and other services on campus to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience. Use athletics as preparation for success in life, this program supports intellectual development, enhances interpersonal relationships, builds positive self-esteem, and promotes respect for diversity.
Students with Mental Health Needs
The University Counseling Center provides counseling for and assists students with mental health, psychiatric, and developmental issues through individual, couples, and group counseling as well as consultation and outreach. The Center maintains a staff of appropriately trained and licensed counselors.

Academic Advising Center was created to provide academic advising and support to Nicholls State University students from the time of their admission until their acceptance into their majors. Faculty advisors meet regularly with students, assisting them in goal clarification, in selection of a major, and in educational planning and course selection. Ellender Memorial Library houses more than 443,600 books and bound periodicals, 2,000 journal titles, 350,000 catalogued federal and state documents, and provides access to 40,000 E-books and over 50 electronic reference sources. Louisiana Center for the Study of Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders serves the community and NSU students who have been identified as having characteristics of dyslexia and/or a related disorder. College students in all majors are provided support services. Services include one-on-one tutoring, comprehensive assessments, classroom and testing accommodations. Tutorial Academic Enhancement Center is committed to assisting students in enhancing their learning potential and developing proficiency in their academic endeavors. The Center provides small group (3-4 people) tutorial assistance to students having difficulty with courses at the college level. The sessions with a tutor provide supplementary work in coordination with the classroom situation, not in place of it. Areas currently included are math, English, computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, and foreign language.
